Salt-n Pepa: The Movie Event

Working on the Salt-N-Pepa: The Movie campaign for Lifetime was a huge thrill for me. Directed by Mario Van Peebles, this Lifetime Movie was better than some Hollywood biopics. I had been cutting several different spots for the movie when the producer came to me with an interesting concept. She had Sandra Denton (aka Pepa) read a powerful script she had written, and she trusted in my creative instincts to come up with an original spot. I first laid out Pepa’s read and then created a sound bed by layering some interesting sound modules that kept building in intensity. For video, I used stock footage of New York City and slowly started to intercut quick glimpses of the movie. The spot keeps building until the very end when we finally reveal Salt-N-Pepa. Months later, I was elated to discover that it was nominated for a Promax Award! It would go on to win the silver in the Television Movie Promo category. It was a proud moment for the entire creative team.
